Mr. Slogan is a registered professional biologist in British Columbia (R.P.Bio) and has worked as a terrestrial and marine ecologist with EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd. in Vancouver, BC, and various governmental and non-governmental organizations for eight years in Canada, Mexico, and Seychelles. His education includes a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Zoology/Botany, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Quantitative Community Ecology from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Environmental Engineering from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Mr. Slogan is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Marine Ecology at the Fisheries Research Centre at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. As an ecologist his experience includes terrestrial and marine biodiversity inventories, ecosystem mapping, impact assessments, invasive plant surveys, rare plant surveys, riparian restoration projects, environmental screenings, environmental monitoring, and steam bank rehabilitation.
Mr. Slogan's PhD thesis will focus on colonization and succesion of marine floral and fauna on man-made fish compensation habitat in Burrard Inlet, BC. The focus of the study includes newly created compensation areas associated with construction of the Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project (VCCEP), a ten year old compensation area immediately adjacent to the VCCEP (Harbour Green), and Brockton Point, Stanley Park. Multivariate statistics will be used to identify potential successional stages and trajectories in marine communities occurring within Burrard Inlet. Ecosystem modeling will also be conducted to identify changes in community structure with time since installation of compensation habitat features.
