I believe it is our reponsibility as fisheries scientists to study the many aspects of fisheries in the context of improving the quality of life for the people and communities that depend on them; conserving (and perhaps restoring) the marine ecosystem is perfectly compatible with this.  My thesis focuses on assessing the value and possible impacts of the growing marine recreation industry in order to identify possible alternatives for fishermen.

After completing my degree in marine biology, I worked in several reef census and stock assessment studies. I have also taught classes in oceanography, fisheries and marine biology. Having grown up around fisheries, I realized that knowing how many fish we could catch and catching them is not the problem; I hope that economics may help to solve or at least understand the reasons behind some current issues in fisheries.
