BooksFish and Aquatic Resources Book SeriesThe Blackwells Science Series on Fish and Aquatic Resources Series is an initiative aimed at providing key text in this fast-moving field, published to a high international standard. The Series includes books that review major themes and issues in the science of fishes and the interdisciplinary study of their exploitation in human fisheries. Volumes in the Series combine a broad geographical scope with in-depth focus in concepts, research frontiers and analytical frameworks. These books will be of interest to research workers in the biology, zoology, ichthyology, ecology and physiology of fish, and economics, anthropology, sociology and all aspects of fisheries. They will also appeal to non-specialist such as those with a commercial or industrial stake in fisheries. It is the aim of the editorial team that books in the Blackwells Science Fish and Aquatic Resources Series should adhere to the highest academic standards through being fully peer reviewed and edited by specialist in the field. The Series books are produced by Blackwells Science in a prestigious and distinctive format. The Series Editor, Dr Tony J. Pitcher is an experienced international author, and founding editor of the leading review journal for the field of fish and fisheries. The Series Editor and the publisher at Blackwells Science, Nigel Balmforth, will be pleased to discuss suggestions, advise on scope, and provide evaluation of proposals for books intended for the Series. Kluwer Fish and Fisheries Series(formerly Chapman and Hall) Kluwer Academic from Dordrecht, Holland, publishes a series of books covering topics in the science of fish and fisheries. The series was formerly published by Chapman & Hall. The Kluwer Fish and Fisheries Series aimed to present timely reviews of important aspects of fish biology and their exploitation. Most volumes are of interest to research workers in biology, zoology, ecology and physiology but an additional aim is for the books to be accessible to a wide spectrum of non-specialist readers ranging from undergraduates and postgraduates to those with an interest in industrial and commercial aspects of fish and fisheries.

Just Fish: Ethics and Canadian Marine Fisheries

Researchers from the UBC Fisheries Centre, the University of Victoria's Center for Studies in Religion and Society and the Institute for Social and Economic Research at Memorial University of Newfoundland collaborated on the SSHRC-sponsored project " Ethical Analysis as a Basis for Policy Decision-Making: Canadians and Fish Stocks, East and West ". Four of the fifteen members of the interdisciplinary team are from the Fisheries Centre - Dr Tony Pitcher, Dr Daniel Pauly, Nigel Haggan, and Melanie Power. Other Fisheries Centre members contributed to the project through co-authoring of chapters. See the Ethics Project page. |

The Chair of the Fisheries Centre's International Advisory Council, Dr David Policansky, National Research Council, Washington DC, has recently co-edited a book on the common property problem in fisheries. The book is published by Island Press , the same not-for-profit publisher that will be producing the first public report from the Centre's Sea Around Us project. David's own chapter in the book concerns recreational fisheries, the subject of his recent research seminar in the Fisheries Centre. |
